Over the holidays, a man who was upset with the way the food tasted slammed a hot sweet potato pie in his girlfriends face. His girlfriend is currently being treated for 3rd degree burns to her face and neck. The man is currently out on a $5,000 bond.
My question is why is this O.K? In what world is this acceptable to do this to someone because you don’t like how something tastes…
Why the heck was he allowed bond? $5,000? This is all a woman’s life is worth these days is a miserable 5grand? Every 9 minutes a woman is beaten, every 9 minutes!
There are so many women who suffer in abusive relationships. What really got me was the Juanita Bynum incident with her husband, a bishop. Domestic violence does not discriminate, it doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor, famous or not…there are millions of women who suffer in silence. And for every story we hear like this, there are probably hundereds if not thousand of others that go unreported.
When I heard of this story, I thought about the incident a few years back where the man set his ex-girlfriend on fire at her job.
Rage is an all-consuming emotion. If you don’t control it, it will control you. I think we live in a society where still men are almost allowed to treat women any way they choose. And women, especially married ones are encouraged to stick it out and be a “strong woman”.
I also think in part women need to do a better job of choosing their partners. It doesn’t matter if you are straight or gay. Women as a whole, sometimes gravitate towards the “rough neck” type…and all the baggage that comes with it. On the other hand the so called “nice guys/gals” can also have a bad streak as well.
What’s even sadder is that when I Googled “man throws pie in face” other top related results where “man throws kids off bridge” and “man throws wife and daughter out of window…” Both events occured this year. If you don’t believe it, here are both links:

I literally just saw this on the news. It’s so sad. I wonder if this is the first incident the couple has had.

Violence against women and children are growing at an alarming rate and each story we hear or read is getting more unusual than the last. The acts are already horrific, but whatr’s worst is the lack of punishment received by these now criminals. It seems that sometimes the law doesn’t protect the victims as it should. Something must be done. Besides utilizing our voices, what else can we do?

@sugardaddy…yup, they sure did. he’s free as a bird right now.
@Bella…me too. but i doubt that, she will have to live with the evidence of one man’s rage forever
@Alix…probably not the first incident they’ve had.
@ladybug…that’s what i was thinking. i mean there are lots of organizations out there for battered women. but here’s the thing, i know a woman who is the director of a battered women’s shelter and so many women come there and actually go back to the man. and there isn’t too much they can do about it. personally, i couldn’t deal with that. right now, i donate clothes and good suits to shelters for women in transition…maybe i should be more involved.
@bee…yup!

No, getting hit in the face with a hot pie is never ok. And when women stand up for each other, (you know we don’t always to that) men who do stupidity like that won’t get off on bail.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

I can’t help but wonder if alcohol played a part in this story, because I don’t know why anyone would think it is okay to throw HOT food in someone’s face. Maybe our society need to take a harder look at how we are raising our children (especially boys). People in general just seem to be getting more selfish and out of control… it is sad.
